Word Time Resources and Activities
Learn more about Word Time and how a developmental approach to literacy and vocabulary in early childhood education helps children develop language skills alongside important social, emotional and physical skills.
The Word Time kit includes: 336-page Teacher’s Guide for 9- or 12-months of lessons, 295 laminated Word Cards, and Squawker, a friendly parrot puppet who engages your young learners.
We designed this program with you in mind. Word Time is easy to use in your classroom or OT practice and works well with any curriculum. It takes only 10-15 minutes a day to teach a lesson, making integration easy and seamless.
Lessons are flexible and theme based so that you can pick a lesson to reinforce what you are teaching on a given day. The themes in Word Time are meaningful to young learners and help you teach important concepts:
1. Social Behavior 2. School 3. My Body 4. Sky
5. Animals 6. Work 7. Health 8. Earth
9. Celebrations 10. Transportation 11. Construction 12. Play
Word Timealso makes it easy for you to extend lessons with The Book Connection. For each theme, we provide a suggested reading list. Each time you read aloud, you explicitly teach children concepts about print and help them develop important literacy skills.
Word Time is used in Early childhood and New Entrant classrooms and later for children with learning delays/disabilities.
The program is appropriate for whole-class, small group, and one-on-one instruction.
